Story
18 months ago, my life changed. My Mum became ill and before we knew it, she was gone. I cannot change that but I have a chance to perhaps make a difference for others. I have raised money for Cancer Research before but this is my biggest challenge yet and this time, it is very personal to me. You can help me make that difference.
So, what am I doing? I am taking part in an endurance marathon on 21st June 2014 and my journey will take me along Hadrian's Wall from Carlisle Castle to the Gateshead Millennium Bridge over a mixed-terrain route that incorporates both on and off-road sections. There are 69 miles to be conquered in one continuous journey in 15 hours - my choice. I chose to put everything aside to do this and I have been training 5 days a week since January 1st. It's hard but no where near as hard as the challenge my Mum faced.
You might wonder where your money goes. Here are just a few examples:
£500 - could pay for a training afternoon for the whole team of the Cancer Information Nurses
£2,000 - could improve the quality of life for men following testicular cancer treatment
£5,000 - is enough to pay for special gloves to protect 90 researchers, who have to retrieve valuable samples stored at Antartic temperatures in ultra cold freezers and liquid nitrogen tanks
£9,200 - could fund a weeks work by seven Cancer Information Nurses
Thanks to research, more people are beating cancer than ever before. In the 1970s, only a quarter of people survived. Today, more than half will survive for at least 10 years. This charity receives no Government funding and that's why a donation means so much.
So what are you waiting for? Dig deep. A little means so much. Thank you.
